John Garcia

Sharon Abbott Garcia established this scholarship to honor the memory of her husband, John Garcia ’64, RPh. As a young man he was mentored by a community pharmacist. In turn, he mentored many young pharmacists throughout his career. During a varied career in pharmacy, Garcia found a passion and an opportunity for innovation, problem solving and direct care to patients and pets at his compounding pharmacy in Berkeley. The first college graduate in his family, he overcame financial and academic challenges. Dean Ivan W. Rowland, PhD, the School’s inaugural dean, personally helped Garcia secure funds to enable him to complete his education. This scholarship is awarded to first and second-year Hispanic pharmacy students.
