Robert M. Long PharmD/MBA

The late Robert M. Long was formerly CEO and Chairman of the Board of Longs Drug Stores, Inc., a multi-state regional drug store chain that was founded in 1938 by his father, Joseph M. Long and uncle, Thomas J. Long. Mr. Long began working in the company in 1954 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1968. He became president of the company in 1975 and was named chief executive officer two years later. He became chairman of the company in 1991 and served in that capacity until 2003. Mr. Long guided the company during those years with an emphasis on treating employees well; something he believes helped Longs develop its reputation for excellent customer service. He received the School’s Special Friend of Pacific Pharmacy Award in 2003.
