Abbott Scholars - Social Work Scholarship
Students in the hybrid MSW program who are Abbott Fund scholars will receive a scholarship and complete a sub-specialization in diabetes care and management within the health care specialization of the hybrid MSW program.
- This sub-specialization is designed for students interested in pursuing health social work career focused on diabetes prevention, education, and management in Stockton.
- Abbott Fund scholars in the hybrid MSW program will complete a workshop series, an elective course, a capstone project and a 31-week field placement in diabetes care and management.
The award timeline depends on receipt of gift from the funder.

- As a condition of receiving this award, you agree to work in Stockton upon graduation as social worker for at least two years. Additionally, to continue to receive the award once you have started the program, you must meet the following conditions:
- Abide by the MSW Student Handbook, including addressing issues of professionalism and interpersonal communication.
- By accepting this scholarship, you agree to participate in Abbott Fund and Abbott Scholars alumni events and remain in contact with the MSW program through responding to emails sent by the program.
- Complete your specialized practice internship in an organization that serves the Stockton community.
- Consistently participate in all DCM sub-specialization required classes and activities, earning a minimum grade of ‘B-’ in each class or activity.
- Earn a minimum grade of ‘B-‘ or ‘Pass’ in all required courses.
- Further, if you withdraw from any of the Diabetes sub-specialization courses or activities, scholarship awards scheduled for future trimesters will be canceled.
- If you withdraw or are disqualified from the program, your scholarship will be pro-rated based on the percentage of tuition you are charged for the trimester.
- Maintain full-time student status, taking all required MSW courses and DCM sub-specialization classes and activities scheduled for each trimester.
- Remain in academic good standing by maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in the MSW program.
- Please note that some/all of the information you include in the application and essay could be used in public announcements, newsletters, social media posts, etc. Including this information in the application gives us permission to be able to utilize it these manners.
